HESPERUS’ Hunchback named one of the 10 best classical concerts by the Columbus Dispatch

The Columbus Dispatch called our November performance at the Drexel Theatre one of the top classical concerts of the year: “The group’s performance of its early-music score for The Hunchback of Notre Dame was full of clever repertoire choices and brilliant playing. Tina Chancey, founder and music director of the ensemble, said it wasn’t initially her idea to perform early music as live accompaniment for silent films. But, recognizing a brilliant concept when she saw one, she started compiling gems from medieval and Renaissance repertoires to create scores for such films. The result is a new performance context and, thus, renewed relevance in the world of classic film for what has become an otherwise obscure repertoire.
